A Black Cat!!!!
I know what a cat is. I have a cat friend who lives in Grapevine, and her name is Jasmine. She sends me emails, which I enjoy very much. She tells me about her day with her mom (my mom’s childhood friend). I send emails back, and her mom reads them to her.
Anyway, back to my black cat. I was outside this afternoon patrolling the fence like always. I picked up a strange scent, and I wasn’t quite sure what it was. About that time, Hilde came up beside me and began sniffing the ground, too. We traveled up and down the fence line and couldn’t find a thing that didn’t belong in our yard. All at once I heard a rustle outside our fence in the tree line across our driveway. Hilde heard it about the same time I did.
We immediately ran to the exact same spot at the exact same time and spied something moving along the ground cover. I was barking and growling, but Hilde was just barking; I don’t think she knows how to growl. Nothing was happening while we made all that noise, so we became very quiet. By this time, mom was coming up behind us wanting to know what in the world all the fuss was. Mom stood between us and looked across the road; she saw it. She told us it was just a cat, and it was okay that it was over there.
Mom said that’s probably why we don’t have any mice around here anymore. She said that with that black cat and white owl, those mice better stay away unless they want to be eaten. Come to think of it, the last time I saw that owl he was pretty hefty for a bird. Hmmm, that cat didn’t look like it had missed any meals lately, either.
You’ve heard about the patience that cats are supposed to have, right? Well, this cat would have won first prize; it didn’t move all the time we were watching it. It was getting dark, and I was very, very thirsty (my tongue was hanging out the side of my mouth). I followed mom into the house, but Hilde stayed out there. I lay down on the cool tile, and, after a while, got up and drank some nice cold water. I surely did feel better. I heard Hilde still barking and so went back outside.
There she was, still standing in the same spot by the fence. I sorta sprinted up to where she was, and that cat had not moved one inch. The sun was down, but you could still those green eyes looking at you from that ground cover. Finally, mom insisted we come into the house. I went–reluctantly.
Are black cats bad luck????
