What Happens Now?

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

According to dad, the new year is here. And I was right, nothing has changed so far. I don’t pretend to know what a new year is, but dad says it has to be better than last year.

I know mom is cooking blackeyed peas and hog jowls, and they smell pretty good; I wonder if I am going to get any. Well, this isn’t a big dinner, so I might. I don’t think I have ever tasted them before; therefore, I am looking forward to trying them. I’m not sure what a hog jowl is either, but if it’s meat, I’ll eat it. I like meat. I guess it’s because it’s inherent in most of us. I know mom doesn’t eat meat, and I think it’s because she loves all animals. She eats lots of celery and peanut butter (I like it too; it’s crunchy), beans (for the protein she says), bread (gosh, I love bread and I love that mom loves it), oranges, apples, pears, and vegetarian pizza. She eats lots of other stuff, too, but I just listed the ones that I like. After all, I am doing the writing, so I get to choose.

Hilde and Wooly are in the TV room sleeping; I am in here by mom at the computer so I can protect her. I am lying on my bed so I can see out the window into the breezeway and beyond that, the little back yard–only it’s not so little either. I am looking and watching out for the varmit that tried to get into the house the other night. If it gets into the back yard, I’ll bark and run around until mom puts me out there. I’ll take Hilde with me because she’s big and much more intimidating than I am. If I can figure out how, I’ll put some pictures of us in my blog so you can see how we look. (You will see how beautiful we are and why mom loves us so much.) Then, you’ll see why most humans and varmits are scared to come too close to us, especially Hilde.
